Three short English writing exercises

Try each brief before opening its example. Several answers can work; use the check to assess your own choices.

01

Make a request specific

You need the evening course timetable by Thursday because registration closes Friday. Ask for it politely in one or two sentences.

Read a model answer

Could you send me the evening course timetable by Thursday? I need to choose a class before registration closes on Friday.

Check: Can the reader find what you need, the deadline, and the reason?

02

Write a useful email

Your colleague has the meeting notes. Ask them to send the notes by 3 p.m. today so you can prepare tomorrow’s agenda. Include a subject line.

Read a model answer

Subject: Meeting notes for tomorrow’s agenda Hi Alex, could you send me the meeting notes by 3 p.m. today? I need them to prepare the agenda for tomorrow. Thank you.

Check: Does the subject identify the task? Is the requested action easy to find?

03

Describe something with facts

Describe a study room using only these facts: six desks, two windows, a whiteboard, and opening hours of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Do not invent a view, size, or noise level.

Read a model answer

The study room has six desks, two windows, and a whiteboard. It is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Check: Is every detail supported by the brief? Remove vague words such as “amazing” or “perfect.”

A practice routine you can repeat

Start with writing you actually need: a request, an update, or an explanation. Keep it short enough to review carefully.

How do I review my English writing?

Check meaning first: is the request or point clear? Then check facts, the order of ideas, and unnecessary words. Finally, read aloud to notice missing words or sentences that are hard to follow.

Will I get a score or teacher feedback?

This is self-guided practice. Model answers and checklists help you compare and revise; there is no teacher review, AI grading, exam score, or certificate.

Can I use Arabic help?

Yes. Switch on Arabic guidance above the Clear English exercise for task explanations, vocabulary, and revision checks. All seven Clear English assignments include it; you write your drafts in English.

Can I save or download my writing?

Guest writing saves in this browser. Download your drafts and revisions as a practice portfolio, or sign in and use Save to account for access on another device.
